When launching my debut novel Red Twin, I thought a little release party would be nice, to mingle and maybe sign some books. I had just planned to use a community center and invite a few close friends.
The plan quickly escalated into a full-fledged party with drinks from Mava Salte and New Rov, sushi 🍣 and a specially ordered cake. Yes, you can see for yourself in the pictures. 🥳🥂
More than expected came and I sold around 20 books – including to a Mongolian shaman!
Afterwards, we continued with a barbecue in the beautiful weather and some neighbors even stopped by. I couldn’t have wished for a more successful party and have rarely felt so appreciated.
As I sat there signing book after book, it felt like I was an author for the first time. The feeling of having accomplished something that others care about, want to take part in and want to share with others. Yes, it was both unexpected and indescribable. It makes all my hard work of writing, learning the craft, editing, publishing and marketing worthwhile. Here was my real reward.
So even though it may feel difficult to reach out with a sci-fi book 🪐 in little Sweden, it doesn’t matter – I’ve already won. You made me feel like a winner.
From here, an exciting journey awaits me with writing part 2 of the Colony, translating Red Twin and building an international presence.
Hope you’re ready, world, because here I come.
