Let’s make one thing clear: I’m a massive Star Wars nerd and consume books, games, comics, TV, and movies set in George Lucas’s universe. That’s largely why I write science fiction. The rich world (more than the script) is a clear reference point when I create my own world Kolonin.
But Red Twin is more than just Star Wars in Swedish. I have tried to build a unique world with its own history, where each people has its own culture and each place its own significance.

When many people think of sci-fi, they might think of spaceships, aliens, and very action-oriented plots. That’s something I also love about the genre. But when I tell my story, I primarily try to portray realistic characters, with problems and goals that people can relate to. Even aliens are human.
Star Wars is a classic battle between good and evil, but as a writer, I strive to create a more complex world where the boundaries between good and evil are not so clear.
In Red Twin, you get to follow Tuya, whose personal journey is one that many can surely relate to. She must make many difficult decisions to achieve her goals. Through her eyes, the reader gets to explore themes such as identity, courage, and forgiveness. In that way, the book is more similar to Dune (currently in theaters) than Star Wars.

The book still takes place in a sci-fi world, where flying vehicles are commonplace and you won’t get far without some DNA modifications.
I didn’t want to introduce this technology just because I could, everything must serve a purpose. For example, Tuya needs a translator to understand the inhabitants of The Colony. In the first draft, this was an earpiece that everyone carried around. But I realized that it was too cumbersome and rewrote it as an implant instead.
Similarly, the holoprojector plays an important role as it can project a map or be used to communicate with someone. Everything must work in a believable way according to the rules I have set for the world.

The book “Red Twin” is intended as a celebration of the genre, where I have used everything I love about science fiction, fantasy, and cyberpunk to create a world to tell stories in for a long time to come. Welcome to the Colony!
