This week, I have been working on Chapter 7: “Damages”, as part of the first round of editing for “Red Twin“.

In this chapter, Tuya is seriously injured and must accept that she cannot throw herself back into the battle until she has healed. She has a strict doctor and a friendly nurse to help her.

The chapter came about organically during the editing process when I was connecting the first mission in The Colony with the second one.

Before, everything seemed so easy. Tuya was slightly injured from the first mission, but the story just continued seamlessly into the next chapter. There must be a cost.

**I really like the editing process in this way, where I don’t have a strict deadline or word count to meet, but allow myself to carefully think about each scene so that it serves its purpose best.

That was the problem when I was writing the draft. There was a plan for the story, of course, but not a purpose for each scene. So sometimes I would just write scenes because I had planned to write them, not because they were necessary.

And that’s where the two types of writing converge: “pantsers” and “plotters”. I need to have a somewhat plan for the story, but it also has to emerge organically.
